Love Creek Bitter Springs, 2009 These are paintings about the country between Emily Gap and Arltunga, east of Alice Springs. It is stony and craggy with rocky hills and mythical valleys. The landscape and the plant communities can vary dramatically, within in a small area, to include spinifex, mulga, and saltbush, and the desert flowers are always a surprise, depending on the rainfall and not the seasons.

Desert Air, 2007 Over a number of visits to Alice Springs and the Central Desert between 2005 and 2006 with photographer Greg Weight, I produced these 'plein air' watercolours about the topography and spirit of the land. I often return to the same places, year after year. |

They were inspired by a small book, The Arrernte Landscape, by David Brooks, published by the Institute for Aboriginal Development. |

It was the end of an era in colonial Java for my family. This exhibition examines my family history in colonial Java and our migration to Australia in 1960.
